Boxers

“Hold that,” David said. “Arms up… yeah.”

Terry shifted, the boxers doing less and less to cooperate.

“You’re good,” David added. “Happens.”

“Sorry… it’s got a mind of its own.” Jesus… why now.

David didn’t look away. “Stay with it… this is working.”

1. Terry Marker (filling out - front)

Boxer shorts feel almost timeless—variations of them go way back, whether you call them bloomers, drawers, or just plain skivvies. By the mid-century, they’d settled into something familiar: loose, practical, and quietly part of everyday life.

2. Peter George (filling out - back)

3. Lee Ritchie (chilling out)

4. Jack Virgil (poking out)

They carry a funny contradiction. On one hand, they’re modest—baggy, covering more than they reveal, the kind of thing a businessman or even a minister might wear under a suit. On the other, they’re hot because they're so unpredictable. No support, no stretch… just a gaping fly hole and a bit of fabric standing between “covered” and not. A step, a bend, a shift—and suddenly the whole cat's out of the bag.

5. Alan Peterson (climbing out)

6. David St. John (slipping out)

7. Bill Griffin (stepping out)

They show up less often in physique photography, maybe because they read as so ordinary… even a little “straight,” part of that ritual of innocence where a man isn’t trying too hard. But that’s exactly what makes them interesting. For me, it goes back to the locker room—men standing around in their boxers with their junk either flopping through the fly or out the leg opening and pretending they didn't notice.

8. Gregory David (sticking out)

9. Don Kyle (flopping out)

10. Brad Peter (falling out)

Notes?

Any boxer shorts memories or insight on these models to share?

  1. When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's, most (maybe 75%) guys wore boxers and skin-tight jeans. Everybody knew what everybody had downstairs.
