Gym Shorts

“What’d you pull this time?” Billy asked. “That’s five visits this week.”

“Groin again,” Robbie shrugged. “Other side.”

Norm lowered the camera. “Billy—cheat toward me. Robbie—bend that knee… let it open.”

They settled into place, Billy still watching him.

Norm grinned, raising the camera. “Alright, boys… let’s run it.”

Gym shorts are basically the public-facing cousin of the athlete theme that includes—lifting weights, locker room, and jockstrap. Same energy, just taken out of the locker room and into the daylight. Guys could wear them anywhere, and did. If it was warm out, it was cutoffs or gym shorts, no question.

And unlike the more “official” gear, gym shorts had a little unpredictability built in. Not every guy bothered with anything underneath, which meant a deep stretch, a high step, or just standing up too fast could suddenly turn into a whole different kind of reveal.

I remember watching the college track team practice in the summers—just shorts and running shoes, nothing else. Constant adjusting, scratching, stretching… and the occasional slip if you were paying attention. My friends thought it was hilarious.

I thought it was incredibly intoxicating.
