Mountaintops

“Take a seat on that rock—yeah, right there.”

Jerry settles in. “Which way you want me?”

“Turn profile… open the chest just a touch.” Herb pauses. “That’s nice.”

Jerry shifts, arm resting up on his knee. “Like this?”

“Mm. Keep that.” Herb focuses the lens. Gorgeous!

Click.

1. Jerry Ross - Herb Dixon

We start with Jerry Ross by Herb Dixon, perched on a flat rock in a really clean composition—rule of thirds doing its thing, torso on the right, horizon low. The light carves him out nicely, sharp and defined, while the landscape softens behind him. From there, we move through a mix of color and black and white—men out in the open, no walls, no backdrop.

3. Unknown Model

4. Jean Oslo - Bob Mizer

From the sky a few days ago, we drop down onto the mountaintop—where sky meets land. One of you pointed out the lighting challenge here, and it’s true…with all that sun, it’s not as simple as it looks. Depending on the time of day, you’ve got to shape it, fill it, control it a bit.

5. Kenny Owens w boulder

6. Barry w small red object behind him

7. Bill Melby

There’s something a little over the top about these—guys on the summit, pinnacle, peak, echelon, larger than life, king-of-the-world energy. But that’s part of the fun. At the same time, bringing the nude body into nature does something else—it grounds it. Animal, human, both. And there’s a quiet boldness to it too…nothing hidden, nothing tucked away. Just out there.

8. Raul aka Kobra

9. Adam Sheppard

10. Scott Taylor
