Kitchens

This set begins with an unknown model wearing nothing but a very optimistic apron and ends with Ty Arthur and Hal Paul proving that sausages have been doing double duty in gay humor for a very long time.

1.  Unknown model at the sink in dish towel or apron that fits him perfectly.

Along the way we visit Keith Anthoni preparing pasta, Jim Lasiter, Billy Joe Carr, and the unforgettable sight of Jimmy Pike somehow ending up in a kitchen sink wearing only white gym socks.

2. Jim Lasiter, who modeled for Bob Mizer and others at the stove (this person apparently uses a lot of black pepper).

3. Billy Joe Carr (see June 20, Dining Rooms & Studies) who modeled for many physique photographers filling his cup.

Kitchen photographs have always felt a little different to me. Unlike fireplaces or living rooms, kitchens are working spaces. They're where meals get cooked, coffee gets made, dishes get washed, and midnight snacks mysteriously disappear.

4. Dennis Devin, cheeky blonde cutie at the sink.

5. Larry Dee twisting at the refrigerator.

They're practical rooms, which may be exactly why they work so well in physique photography. The contrast between everyday domestic life and a handsome naked man making dinner creates an instant sense of fun.

6. Garry Lee (rhymes with Larry Dee above) grabbing the pan handle in a wide stance.

7. Keith Anthoni serving sausage and meatballs with his pasta.

More than any other room so far, kitchen photographs seem comfortable admitting they're in on the joke. Aprons that cover almost nothing, strategically placed sausages, oversized pots, kitchen sinks, and overflowing plates of pasta all suggest a photographer who knows exactly what he's doing.

8. Jimmy Pike, legendary Colt model standing in the kitchen sink wearing white gym socks and ready for his close-up.

9. Ty Arthur, athletic Nova star eating a raw hotdog an a perfectly tailored apron.

The result is playful, sexy, and surprisingly relatable. After all, most of us have wandered into the kitchen underdressed in search of coffee, food, or company.

10. Hal Paul, blonde Colt star with curled mustache, shaved chest stuffing large sausage into his mouth with mustard.

Please post any thoughts, questions or corrections in the comments. I could use help IDing #1.

  1. Jimmy Pike: “ Remember the days when you would step into a kitchen sink, bend over and spread ‘em?” - Said absolutely no one. XG
