Same ladder, different decades. This second group leans toward the 1970s and 80s, and what interests me is how much the mood changes while the basic photographic device stays the same.
1. Hank Ditmar posed against a ladder by Jim French. This is one of my favorite shots of Ditmar...he looks great and the composition is beautiful.
2. Duke Richards by Jim French during the late 60's when he worked closely with his partner, Lou Thomas, when their style was scruffier than French's work in the following decades.
3. Jack Hackner climbing a ladder in black boots by Jim French.
4. Nick Poulos leaning against a ladder in a white tank top...also by Jim French.
5. Greg Strom leaning against a ladder.
The earlier ladder shots often play as innocent, athletic or art-study poses. Later, the mustaches arrive, the camera angles get bolder, and the models seem much more aware of exactly who's looking. The ladder hasn't changed much. The relationship between model, camera and viewer has.
6. Mike Davis climbing a ladder in black boots.
7. Clyde Wallace climbing a ladder toward the ceiling.
8. Wolf Kentner aka Peter Hanson posed between two ladders for Falcon Studios. Kentner also posed for J. Brian in the 70s and 80s.
9. Rick Martino posed on a ladder.
10. Paul Strand aka Paul Vance posed next to a small ladder credited to photographer Bob Mizer in the mid-70's, but I know Strand also worked with other photographers from the period.
