Here's another little mystery from the world of vintage physique photography. Metecue Associates, based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, photographed and distributed images of male models during the 1960s and 1970s. The name Edward Quirk has surfaced as the photographer behind Metecue, but I'm still trying to sort out the details. Was Quirk the man behind the camera, or one of several photographers working under the Metecue name? I've also encountered alternate spellings, including Metacue and Meteque, along with another name, Patchwork, associated with some prints.
*All photos in this set credited to Metecue.
What we do have are original catalogs and magazine credits featuring models such as Johnny Connelly, Alan Davis, and Bob Locklin. And there's more to uncover: Michigan State University holds Metecue material in its special collections. So the trail isn't cold, just a little tangled. If anyone knows more about Quirk, Metecue, or Patchwork, I'd love to hear from you!
