Mystery Man 1

“Hold still… I’m dropping the horizon to pop those tan lines.”

A crouch, a pause.

“Right there. Look straight into me.”

A beat behind the lens.

“Camera loves you kid...and so will they.”

I’ve gathered quite a few images of this mystery model over the years, but still can’t put a name to him. The camera clearly loved him—domestic, outdoor, solo and group shots...he clearly did more than one shoot, maybe even for different photographers.

What fascinates me is how someone this photogenic could leave so little trace. Maybe there’s a pseudonym out there I’ve missed, or maybe he’s one of those beautiful men who passes through history the way he might pass you on the street—memorable, magnetic, and gone before you think to ask his name.

Something about him also reminds me of Danny Fitzgerald’s work with Les Demi Dieux—that same mix of muscle jock, boy next door, and a touch of frat-boy.
