March Mystery Man - SOLVED! - Bob Brown

Mystery Men are the guys I keep stumbling across in multiple collections, sites, and scans who somehow still remain unidentified — no photographer credit, no studio stamp, no model name, no context. If any of you recognize these men or have any clues, please share what you know.

BOB BROWN - Colt Model

I’ve gathered quite a few images of this mystery model over the years, but still can’t put a name to him. The camera clearly loved him—domestic, outdoor, solo and group shots...he clearly did more than one shoot, maybe even for different photographers.

1. Beach

2. Profile (wood paneling)

3. Back (kitchen?)

4. Group (2nd from left)

What fascinates me is how someone this photogenic could leave so little trace. Maybe there’s a pseudonym out there I’ve missed, or maybe he’s one of those beautiful men who passes through history the way he might pass you on the street—memorable, magnetic, and gone before you think to ask his name.

5. Christmas tree

6. Fireplace

7. Flex

Something about him also reminds me of Danny Fitzgerald’s work with Les Demi Dieux—that same mix of muscle jock, boy next door, and a touch of frat-boy.

8. Drapes

9. Bed

10. Tile

Bonus. Reading

Tips?

If any of you know who he is, where else he appears, or even better ways to search, I’d truly appreciate the help.

  2. https://homobilia.com/collections/polaroids . No names, but this is where these and more Polaroids are from.

  3. I think all but numbers four and ten are Polaroids, and as such hard to trace. You might try some Google Images searches on these two and see what comes up, but don't be surprised if nothing does.

    1. Thank you, Jerry. I’ve looked everywhere. He’s an enigma. Any idea who the photographer is or who the others in the group photo are? bns

    2. Number four came up on a dozen websites and blogs when I did a Google search, but none of them had any info. It resembles Wyngate & Bevins' style, but it seems too recent to be theirs.

    3. Thank you! The group shot reminds me of Les Demi Dieux too. But nothing solid. bns

  4. The Polaroids were taken by Dr. Hull. https://homobilia.com/pages/a-rare-collection-of-vintage-1960s-gay-polaroids

  6. I think I have most of the photos of him from Homobilia. They were taken at a house in Beverly Hills by an amateur photographer. But, who this gentleman is certainly is a mystery. A hustler? A collage student looking to pick up a few extra bucks? I wonder if he still might be around?

    2. I will. Most of the polaroids from the site I mentioned are obviously rent boys. But he stands out from the rest. I hope in future someone can tell us who he is.
