This set opens with an overhead shot of Otto Shaft in the tub and closes with 80s model Austin, plus a couple of bonus contemporary images that prove photographers are still having fun with this theme today.
1. Otto Shaft by Walter Kundzicz lathering up his back in the tub.
Along the way you'll find heavy hitters like Helmut Reidmeier, John Tristram, John Krivos, and several others soaking, washing, lounging, standing in tubs, and occasionally sharing the space.
2. Helmut Riedmeier soaking in the tub.
3. John Tristram pressing himself out of the water.
4. Jeff Hancock perched on the edge with flexed abs.
I'm sorry, but I find naked men in bathtubs straight-up sexy. It's intimate, wet, warm, and naked with bubbles popping up everywhere. I can see why photographers went there.
5. Buddy Hollands climbing into Kundzicz' tub (the shower curtain is a signature).
6. Julio Lopez, Latino heartthrob standing in the tub.
The tub also gives the model something to do besides strike poses. He can relax, wash up, stretch out, or just soak for a while. It feels less like a performance and more like we're catching him in a moment.
7. Ray Loop and Henry Bunkers giving each other a hand with the bath.
8. John Krivos reaching down to help unknown model in sailor hat with his bath in Mizer's compound.
And then there are the little details that make me laugh. A guy standing in a bathtub for absolutely no practical reason. Two men helping each other out. Bubbles strategically appearing exactly where the photographer needs them. It's all a little ridiculous, a little sexy, and somehow completely convincing.
9. Vincent aka Vito Milan aka Brutus rinsing off in the tub with candlelight.
10. Austin standing in a rustic tub in what looks like a barn or shed rubbing out his shoulders.
Bonus 1. Not vintage, but too good to leave out. Maybe he's cleaning the tub here??
Bonus 2. Funny GIF file of emerging through the suds.
Please leave thoughts, questions or corrections in the comments. I'd love more info on the Bonus shots here or any other details I've missed.
