Ladders - Part 1

The ladder may be one of physique photography's most dependable props. Most of this first group comes from the 1950s and 60s, when ladders were climbed, straddled, leaned against, laid sideways, or simply used to break the empty studio into strong lines and angles.

1. David Anderson by Bruce Bellas (thanks Naven1918!) posed in front of a ladder.

2. Don Wagner leaning back against a ladder.

3. Bob Jensen climbing a ladder in a posing strap by Bob Mizer.

4. Blue Max Hansley by Bob Mizer (thanks Naven1918!) climbing a pool ladder.

5. Danny Combs by Pat Rocco (thanks Naven1918!) leaning back against a step ladder.

And apparently any ladder would do: tall ladders, stepladders, rope ladders—even the tiny one cheekily placed between brothers John and Jim Manning. It's such an ordinary object, but next to a naked man it becomes surprisingly playful.

6. Unidentified model by Pat Milo seated in front of a horizontal ladder.

7. Rod Bauer (who was best friends with fellow model Scott Manley) posed with a rope ladder by Walter Kundzicz.

8. Randall Ward posed on a stool with same rope ladder by Walter Kundzicz aka Champion Studios.

9. Roger Cooke posing in Bob Mizer's yard with a ladder.

10. John (left) and brother Jim Manning in a silly pose with a small ladder shaped prop.
